This is version 1.9 of My Note Pad.  S o o o o.. much more than just a note pad!  A note pad with features found in a database and a word processor!  Great for keeping large and small notes, writing memos, keeping lists, storing styled text that you use frequently and many other functions that the standard notepad and scrapbook do poorly.

This is the shareware version.  You can copy and distribute this program as long as the password, the order form and this note remain intact. When you pay the shareware fees you will receive a password that will remove the reminder screens, remove the limit of 20 notes and remove the reminder on the printed notes. The password you receive will be good for unlocking an less than full version upgrade such as from 1.0 to 1.5 or 1.9 (when they are available).

Also look for the program called "My Calendar" from Dabs Software. It just may be the only calendar program you will ever need. Create, print, view, save and export calendars with custom fonts, sizes, styles patterns and colors. Includes a rolodex style database and the ability to print daily notes, and labels.

  17. My Note Pad has the following general requirements:
  18.  
  19. 1. A Macintosh running at least System 6.08 or later.  We highly recommend a color Mac and System 7.5.1 or later.
  20.  
  21. 2. At least 500k of free memory.
  22.  
  23. Installation:
  24.  
  25. My Note Pad can be located anywhere on an unlocked disk.  Try placing it in the Apple Menu Items folder in your System folder for quick and easy access.  There are no additional files needed.  All preferences and notes are stored internally so moving or copying the file copies all of the information you have saved.

  27. Menus:

  29. My Note Pad has six (seven if Speech Manager is installed) menus in addition to the Apple menu:

  31. 1. The File menu allows you to close the note window, open the note window, quit the program and access the Page Setup dialogs. In addition, the functions of the New, Rename, Delete, Save, Sort, Print and Import buttons are reproduced.

  33. 2. The Edit menu has the standard Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, Select All and Undo commands. The Undo command handles all of the Edit menu commands and typing in the window. At the bottom of the menu are the Tabs/Margins and Find Text commands that reproduce the Tabs and Import buttons.

  35. 3.  The Font menu is the standard Macintosh menu.

  37. 4.  The Size menu is the standard Macintosh menu and adds the ability to specify Other... font sizes.

  39. 5.  The Style menu is the standard Macintosh menu. If you have System 7 and the extended text edit package included in most System 7 releases, the standard Condense and Extended commands will be replaced with Superscript, Subscript, Strike Thru, and Invert. The Apple clipboard supports styled text but does not support these styles.

  41. 6.  The Color menu. This menu allows you to change the color of text using a graphical color menu selector.

  43. 7.  The Voices menu. On Macs equiped with the Speech Manager a menu will be built with all of the available voices.  You can select a voice to read notes.

  49. If these examples appear as plain text then you do not have the extended text editing routines installed.

  53. My Note Pad has fourteen tools:

  55. Beginning from the upper left to lower right.

  57. 1. New - This tool allows you to create and name a new note. The note name must be more than 2 characters.
  58.  
  59. 2. Find - This tool allows you to search for a string of text in any of notes.  The search routine is very fast! You can search megabytes of notes in less than one second!!  Currently the search begins with the first note and continues until a match is found.  Future releases will allow you to specify a start note and a Find Again command.  When the text is found, the note is displayed and the found text selected and displayed.

  61. 3. Import - You can import text into the current note from any text file.  The text you import will replace the existing text in the note. Text is limited to approximately 32,000 characters in each note.

  63. 4. Tabs - My Note Pad allows you to set a simple tab. The tab is really just spaces. When you type the tab key the number of spaces you have chosen will be substituted for the tab key.  This window also allows you to set the top, left, bottom and right margins to use when printing the notes.  Enter the desired size in inches. Many printers have different built in printable areas. Test your selection and modify the numbers as needed.  The check box allows you to add carriage returns at the end of lines or eliminate them.

  65. 5. Sort - This tool allows you to sort the list of notes.  Sorting is top down (ie A-Z)

  67. 6. Speak - This tool allows you to speak the text within the current note. If text is selected then the selected text will be spoken. If no text is selected the entire note will be spoken.

  69. 7. Date Stamp - This tool allows you to enter the current date and time at the current cursor location

  71. 8. Save - This tool allows you to save any changes to the current note. Saving is very fast!

  73. 9. Export Text - This tool allows you to export the current note as text.

  75. 10. Print - This tool allows you to print the current note. The note will be printed using the current page setup and the current margins. (See the Tabs information below)

  77. 11. Rename - This tool allows you to rename the currently selected note.

  79. 12. Auto Name - This tool allows you to use the first 100 characters of the note as the name on the list.  Simply click on the tool and the first 100 characters will be used to update the name. To create a name, My Note Pad removes any carriage returns it finds within the first 100 characters and replaces them with a space.

  81. 13. Delete - This tool allows you to delete the currently selected note.  THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE!

  83. 14. Copy All - This tool allows you to copy all of the styled text in the current note to the clipboard.

The width of the list of names can be changed.  Hold down the Option key. A small black rectangle will appear near the bottom arrow next to the list.  While holding down the key drag the mouse to select a new size for the list.  A gray selection rectangle will show you the final size for the display.  If you exceed the minimum or maximum size that can be created the selection rectangle will disappear until you drag the mouse within the limits again.

The author of this software application does not make  any warranties, either expressed or implied, regarding the software package, its merchantability, or it fitness for any particular purpose.  My Note Pad  is offered without any warranty.  It is being offered in this try before you buy format to insure it works with your equipment and the way you work.  Every attempt has been made to produce a stable well working application but Dabs Software makes no warranty that the application will work with all combinations of equipment, systems and system additions.

  98. This note was created with Times roman font. If you do not have that font in your system it will not appear correctly.

  100. You can disable (make gray) an item in the scrolling list by beginning the name of the note with a "(" .

  102. If you have made changes in the note and attempt to click on any button or close the window you will be asked if you want to save the changes before completing the operation.

  104. When typing in the window it acts like a word processor. When you reach the right side of the window it will scroll until it reaches the right margin (depends on your current page setup and window width) and will then scroll back to the left margin if you keep typing.
